South West 7s - Report

The inagural South West 7s at Clifton RFC provided a great day in the sun with both Godfather teams shone playing some great 7s whilst also working closely with CLIC Sargent to promote the cause!

The young Cugines squad led brilliantly by skipper Tom Williams consisted of a lot of talented young players many of whom were making their debuts in senior rugby for the Godfathers. Despite giving away much in age and size the lads acquitted themselves well and were able to beat a number of other much larger teams en route to a very credible runners up spot in the Mens Open.

The Borgatta had the honour of kicking off the tournament in the Elite. With some exciting new additions in the set up the lads recorded convincing wins against the Smashy Bears, Bamboo 7s and Zoti Guns as they comfortably topped pool A. Their reward was a re-match with the Blacksheep who had beaten them by 2pts en route to retaining their Bournemouth 7s title. Having not been tested to date the team were suddenly on the end of a first half drubbing as basic errors and classy play led to a big half time deficit. Ringing the changes at half time they got themselves back in the game but with a mountain to climb came up just short and exited at the semi final stage.

Some great 7s and lots of money raised for CLIC sargent meant it had been a great weekend.
