Great start to 2015 campaign at the Hartpury 7s

The 2015 season season started off in great style at a sunny Hartpury 7s last weekend as the lads came within a whisker of lifting the trophy but eventually had to settle for runners up.

Despite a number of late pull outs (never acceptable!) and a team containing 4 young debutants the day started off well with a 50-0 win over the Warpigs. The second game against the Silverbacks highlighted the inexperience of the squad as a catalogue of mistakes and errors cost us dear. Needing to win our final game against pool leaders the Bandits the lads finally started to gel with Jo dominating the contact area and Harrison and Elias looking very sharp,  and pulled out a good performance to see us easily pull through and come top of our pool. Unfortunately a serious injury to Harvey Skelton ruled him out of the rest of the tournament and season which was a great shame as he was having a stormer - get well soon!

Into the quarter finals and a 43-7 win over hosts Bamboo 7s set up a semi against a very well drilled Bristol Uni team. Despite falling behind early the lads kept their composure and fought their way back into the game which went to the wire. A stunning length of the pitch try by Charlie Hubert in sudden death was enough to seal a spot in the final.

The final against the Bandits was a re-match of the pool game which we had won comfortably. The game looked like being a repeat as quick fire scores gave us a commanding lead, however a number of injuries and tight ref calls saw momentum swing back to an ever dangerous bandits who scored two late tries to take the title.

Considering the age and experience of the squad the signs for the season are hugely encouraging, Special mention to 4 great debutants Elias, Robin, Tom and Harvey.
