Cugines win @ Olney 7s

A young Cugines team under the expert guidance of 'Topper Brown' managed to pull off one of the most unexpected wins for many a year when they won the Country and Stable Shield at the Olney 7s.

With the team still searching for players until Thursday night and only 8 confirmed it was an achievement to play at the event let alone win it, and a great credit to the lads who fronted up all day without subs to help out.

Things started of promisingly with a win against St Pauls 21 - 12 before a sobering beating from a physical Wooden Spoon team suggested that it was going to be a tough day. In the final game against there Royals the lads at last started to move the ball around and showed tenacious defence to record a win to take them into the quarters.

Heart of Bletchley was another tough game but with the John boys dominating the scrums enough balk was produced to allow Cieran, Ben and Ivan and Harry to score the tries needed whilst Chris Day was magnificent all day in attack and defence. A replay against St Pauls in the semi was another close affair but negotiated to set up a final against the Sheffield Bears. In the final at last the lads showed what they had learnt and played with skill and passion to record a well deserved win for the Cugines.

The future is bright ...!
