As in recent weeks those travelling to North Dorset to watch the final tournament of the year were treated to some sizzling 7s to match the scorching weather.
With a quicksilver young team packed with talent and flair the Godfathers secured top seeding at the tournament after blowing away Crewkerne 67-0, Fordingbridge 57-0 and Aniers 55-0 in the pool stages with some precision 7s to chalk up over 150 points without conceding.
Jacob Spence and Bobby Lyons dominated the kick offs and Alex, Will and Jack ran the games nicely allowing exciting debutant Harrison Yorke and the hugely impressive Rhids to exploit the gaps and score some great tries. With top seeding secured the Godfathers were once again drawn against Aniers who had secured 8th seeding, in a more physical affair Will Waddington shone in dotting down 2 tries in another comfortable 45-7 win.
Having coasted to the semis without alarm the lads took on last weeks nemesis the Navy Sharks. Posing a hugely physical challenge the team got the better of the early stages and Harrison Yorke scored a great individual try to take the lead, having conceded a sift try before half time a golden chance to extend the lead was blown on the stroke of half time as the first handling error of the day cost a certain 7 points. As the game wore on the Navy began to ascertain themselves at the break down and the differences in age/size began to tell as inexperience allowed the Navy to score 3 late tries to take the tie and they would also end as the worthy cup winners.
For the young squad however it was further evidence of how this exciting squad is coming together and will be a huge force next year!
