The Godfathers finally hit top form and in doing so blew away the opposition to win the Solstice 7s in some style. Despite some last minute pull outs an exciting team made the long trip to sunny Nottingham for the traditional Solstice 7s.
Joining the team regulars, youngsters Jack Hughes and Alex Haynes along with OB Jack Price all made an instant impact as the team started to play with real pace and precision.
Day one same some comfortable wins 55-5, 45-5 and 52-0 with skipper for the day Tom Nabbs grabbing an early hat trick. After a suitably quiet night a potentially tricky quarter final was won 47-5 before a great performance in the semi against defending champs the Flying Lizards saw a 29-0 win and the opposition denied the ball for the majority of the game.
The final against Sheffield was equally comfortable with a 47-7 win resulting in silverware and a fitting sign off for skipper Nabbs before he returns to NZ.
Although the entire team were faultless special mentions go to Matt Belblin for his perfection at the restart, Ashley Chalk for winning them back and newly returned Joe Collingham for his scary physicality. This was by far the best 7s played for some time so lets hope that it will act as a catalyst for future tournaments...!
Next up the lads are at Olney on 5 July looking to win back the cup.
